The AquaRain Model 404 features 4 high performance filter cartridges set in a 3 gallon stainless steel housing. When kept full, you can produce up to one gallon of clean and safe water per hour for drinking and cooking. The Modell 404 is approximately 10 inches in diameter and is 21 1/2 inches tall including the stainless steel lid and rubber base.
AquaRain duplicates nature's perfect process, using gravity alone. Through the minute pores of our specially fired ceramics, waterborne pathogens are removed including cysts (Cryptosporidum and Giardia Lamblis) and bacteria (E. Coli, Salmonelli typhus, Cholera, etc.) The now filtered water enters a chamber packed with silver-impregnated activated carbon where chemical (Chlorine), pesticides, VOC's (MTBE) tastes and odors are absorbed. The end result is SAFE WATER for drinking and cooking where nothing less will do. Without question, nothing is more important than having safe and pure water when it comes to enjoying a longer and better quality of life with vibrant health.
Many healthy minded individuals have gone to bottled water after hearing of the detrimental effects of tap water, thinking it is safer. Unfortunately, much of the bottled water on the market today is nothing more than packaged tap water, all the while we perceive it as something unique and safe . . . forgetting that one third of bottled water tested be the FDA was found to have bacteria. Besides, the exorbitant expense of most bottled water makes it even less of a bargain. Other water filtering systems require plumbing, pressure and/or some type of energy to produce filtered water that is often less than safe.
Concerns over unpredictable power failures and natural disasters worldwide make energy-dependent water systems unreliable and even dangerous when effluents back up in the after-effects of floods, tornadoes, severe weather, earthquakes and protracted outages.
It is amid these and other conditions when our gravity filter becomes the source of safe, life-sustaining water which requires no man-made energy, boiling or chemicals.
SAFE WATER is always available, for less than 2 cents per gallon. The AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter will provide your family and loved ones with laboratory proven safe drinking water...without electricity, without plumbing, and without pressure or chemical pretreatments. Our patented space-age ceramic technology positively removes dangerous living organisms and harmful bacteria from your drinking water...naturally...using microfiltration and gravity. A dense and highly adsorptive carbon filter bed has been incorporated within the ceramic shell and sterile metallic silver added to maintain purity in the filter system. The attractive super-sanitary stainless steel housing is press-formed without seams or welds and has easy lift handles.
A unique "splash guard" system insures safe drinking water in daily operation. Here is what may be the best part... the AQUARAIN® can produce quality drinking water for less than 2 cents per gallon
High-Tech Ceramic Filter Elements At the heart of our natural process micro-filter are patented high-tech ceramic filter elements specifically designed for the AQUARAIN® system. Our state-of-the-art ceramic elements filter water in a very natural way, using gravity to gently draw water down through our "cultured" ceramic stone in much the same manner as nature processes ground water through the earth.
The microfine pore structure of our ceramic media will remove dangerous organisms such as protozoan cysts (Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia) and microscopic bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium, etc...). Enclosed within the hard ceramic shell we have incorporated a concentrated bed of Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) that contains a self-sterilizing metallic silver.
The silvered GAC bed will adsorb various organic chemicals such as MTBE and pesticides, remove chlorine compounds including carcinogenic halogens, and improve the taste and odor of the water. To the benefit of good health, our system will also leave unchanged the naturally occurring electrolytes and minerals in your filtered water.
You can depend on the proven technology used in the AQUARAIN® and even the natural concept that it relies upon to produce safe drinking water for your family. The AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter is manufactured to meet stringent NSF standards and fully achieves the USEPA requirements of a Cyst and Bacteria Water Purifier. Best of all, the AQUARAIN® is made with loving care right here in the USA with American Innovation and American Technology!

How Ceramics Work... Ceramic water filters work in three ways. First, surface sieving, much like a screen door, does not allow larger particles to pass through the outer surface of the filter. Second, ceramic filters operate as a depth media, providing a twisting, tortuous path like a maze, trapping contaminants within the walls (usually in the top .005" below the surface).
Third, surface charge or adhesion, whereby contaminants that are small enough to penetrate the walls of the ceramic may cling to the walls like opposite polarity magnets attract each other. This surface charge is often greater than the force of the water flow that might otherwise dislodge the contaminant. This is particularly true with gravity or siphon-fed ceramic applications. Wall thickness is particularly important with regard to a ceramic?s performance as a depth media. The maze-like, tortuous path allows for filtration performance at an effective pore size that is much less than the actual median pore diameter of the diatomes from which the filter is made. As clogged filters are cleaned to restore flow, contaminants in the top .005" of surface material are removed. Gentle abrasive cleaning will gradually reduce wall thickness, making a reliable end-of-life indicator or gauge absolutely essential for easy determination of expended ceramics.
How To Operate the AquaRain The operation of the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter is simplicity itself. No energy is required nor are chemicals necessary for the filter system to work. Water is poured into the upper container where it trickles down by gravity through the highly specialized ceramic filter elements leaving cysts, bacteria and sediment in the outer layer of the ceramic. After passing through the thick ceramic wall, the water then flows through a bed of silvered coconut shell carbon which adsorbs pesticides, various organic chemicals, and chlorine (if present), along with objectionable color, tastes and odors. The filtered water then drips into the lower container where it is stored for easy dispensing with the handy lever-action faucet.
New, dry elements will need several gallons of water run through them, sometimes 10 or 12, before they are fully wetted and reach their maximum flow rate. In normal usage, water for filtration is placed in the upper vessel in the evening and allowed to filter through overnight.
In the morning, most of the water should have filtered through into the lower dispensing container. Additional water may then be added to the upper container for filtration during the day. If maximum production is desired, it will be necessary to keep the upper vessel as full as possible, perhaps refilling every fifteen minutes. To halt the production of filtered water, simply lift the upper container off and empty it. If desired, the stainless steel lid can then be placed on the bottom container which may be used as a convenient and compact counter-top water dispenser.
Over time, small particulates and bacteria may accumulate on the walls of the elements and slow the production of water through the filter. When this occurs, simply remove each of the filter elements and lightly clean the hard surface of the ceramic with a brush or the scrub pad provided. The elements are then reinstalled in the upper filter vessel.
Proper cleaning will restore the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter to full flow rates, each and every time.
Laboratory Testing Extensive independent testing is the key to proving the performance of any water filter product. The ceramic filter elements used in the AquaRain Gravity Water Filter have been thoroughly tested by government agencies and independent laboratories.
Our unique ceramic structure has been successfully tested in independent laboratories with Cryptosporidium parvum for cyst removal, and the EPA mandated Klebsiella terrigena for bacterial removal.
These elements have also been successfully tested against the Health Industry Manufacturing Associations test organism, Brevundimonas diminuta, which is approximately one-third the size of the EPA bacteria test organism.
It is notable that all of these tests were performed at 60-90 p.s.i. which is far above the very low ? p.s.i. found in our gravity operated system. This equates to an expected performance in microorganism removal far beyond the results already achieved in our laboratory testing.
What is particularly noteworthy is that all of the above laboratory tests have been performed with fully expended elements, ready for disposal. All components for testing were abraded to 10% below their end-of-life tolerance and then exposed to contaminated field water prior to being challenged in laboratory testing. In every case, AquaRain Ceramic Elements surpassed the stringent EPA standards for a bacteria and cyst purifier.
We have gone the extra mile to insure that our product will perform as promised and remain effective in producing safe drinking water throughout its entire life. To the best of our knowledge, no other manufacturer has dared to test in this way and publish the results of this type of end-of-life testing.

Questions & Answers
Question: How much water will the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter produce?
Answer: Our factory testing has established a water production rate of approximately one gallon per hour for the AQUARAIN® Model 400. This maximum production figure has been established with clean fully wetted elements and relatively clear water. Keeping the upper vessel as full as possible, perhaps refilling every fifteen minutes, is essential to reach the maximum production potential.
Over time, small particulates and bacteria may accumulate on the walls of the elements and slow the production of water through the filter. When this occurs, simply remove each of the filter elements and lightly clean the hard surface of the ceramic with a brush or the scrub pad provided. Proper cleaning will restore the filter to full flow rates, each and every time.
Question: How long do the filter elements last?
Answer: There are two parts to the filter elements; the ceramic shell, and the granulated carbon filling. Cleaning of the ceramic shell is what wears out the ceramic portion of the filter. Over time, particulates and bacteria clog the microscopic pores of the ceramic, slowing down the flow rate. Occasional cleaning with a small brush or the enclosed green scrub pad will restore the original flow rates. Eventually, cleaning of the ceramic will wear the walls down, making them thinner. When the attached gauge can fit over the diameter of the ceramic, you know it is time to replace the element. Our ceramic formulation is very hard and will endure many cleanings, perhaps over 200 if moderate care is taken and light pressure is used. In normal usage this equates to thousands of gallons of water that can be filtered. The inner carbon filter works by adsorbing and/or reducing certain chemicals, and has a finite lifetime based on the concentration of the compounds being reduced. Generally speaking, the carbon capacity should exceed the life of the ceramic portion of the filter when processing water from most sources. Annual replacement of cartridges should guarantee sufficient carbon capacity for maximum protection. Please note that should the carbon become exhausted, that the elements are still fully effective for the removal of protozoic cysts and harmful bacteria, provided the remaining ceramic wall thickness still has useful life.
Question: How do you clean the ceramic elements?
Answer: The ceramic elements are very easy to clean. You simply remove them from the upper container, and while holding the threaded end of the filter upright, brush lightly downward toward the end cap. After you have lightly cleaned the surface, simply rinse and reinstall the element . Occasionally it will be necessary to lightly abrade the surface with the supplied green pad to restore full flow rate, perhaps after 3 to 5 brush cleanings.
Question: How do you store the filter system?
Answer: If you wish to store the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter, simply remove the filter elements and allow them to completely air dry for at least 24 hours or more. Dry the containers and all parts, then slide the lower container into the upper container to nest them together for compact storage.
Question: Has the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter been laboratory tested?
Answer: Extensive independent testing is the key to proving the performance of any water filter product. The ceramic filter media used in the AQUARAIN® Natural Water Filter has been thoroughly tested by independent laboratories and government agencies. In fact, an especially difficult testing program has been used where expended "worn out" elements have been tested to positively demonstrate that the ceramic elements remain fully effective throughout their entire life. To the best of our knowledge, no other manufacturer has dared to test in this manner. There still remain special additional state testing and filing requirements as yet not completed that prohibit us from making specific health claims in the states of California, Iowa or Wisconsin.

We bought this system and love it! Highly recommended. If you buy one water filter system, make it this one. It's ease of use (just press the spigot arm like on a coffee pot), QUALITY construction and QUALITY filters make this, in my opinion, the absolute best home water filter system. We altogether quit buying and lugging home gallons of bottled water, and now we are strictly using this system. You can make GALLONS of high quality, tasty water with this system, and it works as advertised. Did I mention we love this system?! You will not be disappointed. Try it! If I could select ten stars instead of five, I would.
